Shabaaby bets and Coeur De Lion odds among York tips for October 14
Cheltenham Bet’s York tips for October 14 include Shabaaby bets and Coeur De Lion odds as there’s flat racing for the last time at The Knavesmire this year on Saturday.
Shabaaby is progressing at a rate of knots and can take the step up into Listed company in his stride to land the 6f Rockingham Stakes at York on Saturday (14:40).
Since finishing a promising third behind subsequent Group 3 winner Nyaleti on debut at Salisbury, Owen Burrows’ colt has won at Newmarket and Doncaster by wide margins.
In the last of those at Town Moor, she travelled powerfully throughout before taking up the running a furlong from home and quickening smartly to slam John Kirkup by seven lengths.
More to come
Although that was only a conditions’ contest, the way in which the son of Kyllachy went about his business suggested he was a pattern winner waiting to happen.
This looks a logical progression for Shabaaby and he is clearly thriving.
With more improvement on the cards, he rates a solid bet to take this en route to even better things.
Raucous an each-way play in Coral Sprint
In the Coral Sprint Trophy Handicap (15:15), Raucous looks a lively outsider and worth an each-way wager at the odds on offer.
The William Haggas trained gelding has won three of his 18 starts and been placed on five other occasions.
He posted some cracking efforts last season, including when a two-length third of 12 to top-class sprinter The Tin Man in the Group 3 Hackwood Stakes at Newbury and another third to Shalaa in a Group 3 at Ascot off an official rating of 105.
The four-year-old looked as good as ever on seasonal reappearance when comfortably landing a conditions’ contest at Chelmsford and was then far from disgraced when fourth to Magical Memory in a Group 3 at Newbury.
He has also run better than the bare result suggests in his last three starts in hot handicaps; so, having been dropped a further 5lb since the last of those at The Curragh, is now able to race off a career low rating of 97.
If putting his best foot forward, then Raucous looks a huge player at the weights on the pick of his form.
Coeur De Lion odds can cash-in on class drop
Coeur De Lion ran a cracker when runner-up last time out, so can cash-in on a drop in class to land the 2m Coral Stayers Handicap (17:00).
The Alan King trained gelding developed into a very smart juvenile hurdler last season, winning twice and finishing a fine seventh of 15 to Defi Du Seuil in the Grade 1 Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival to be rated 144.
Coeur De Lion has since opened his account on the level in good style when landing a 2m handicap at Nottingham back in May.
Revised rating exploitable
He then went down by just 1 3/4 lengths to stable compainion Who Dares Wins in the 20-runner class 2 Cesarewitch trial at Newmarket last month.
Although the assessor has put him up 4lb for that, a revised rating of 83 still looks very exploitable in relation to his hurdles rating.
Couer De Lion also now drops down into class 3 company, so this looks a good opportunity for him to get back to winning ways.
