Kew Gardens bets and Purser odds among Newmarket tips for October 14
Cheltenham Bet’s Newmarket tips for October 14 include Purser odds and Kew Gardens bets on Cesarewitch day this Saturday.
Kew Gardens can capitalise on a drop in class to land the Listed 1m 2f Zetland Stakes which gets proceedings underway on a cracking Saturday card at Newmarket (13.50).
The Aidan O’Brien trained colt opened his account at the second time of asking when bolting up by 4 1/2 lengths at Killarney, before finishing an excellent second to stable companion Nelson in a Group 3 at Leopardstown.
Kew Gardens was then far from disgraced last time out over 1m in the Group 2 Beresford Stakes at Naas when a three length fourth of five to the exciting Saxon Warrior, leading for much of the way before being unable to find a change of gear inside the final furlong.
The form of those races read extremely well in relation to this lower grade affair, while Kew Gardens is rated 2lb and upwards superior to his rivals.
With the step up to 1m 2f also looking sure to suit, he looks to have everything in his favour to get back on the scoresheet.
Purser odds an Autumn Stakes ace
Purser looks worth a punt at the odds on offer to land the Group 3 Autumn Stakes (14:25).
The colt, who hails from the in-form yard of John Gosden, has won two of his three starts with his sole defeat coming in the Group 3 Solario Stakes at Sandown when a 3 3/4 lengths fourth to Masar.
Purser ran better than the bare result suggests, being held-up at the rear in a slowly run race before being denied a clear run on more than one occasion when the pace quickened.
I thought he was given a tactically poor ride by Frankie Dettori and in the circumstances it wasn’t a bad effort, given that the winner has gone on to finish runner-up to the very smart Happily in a Group 1 at Chantilly.
Purser has since won by nine lengths at Lingfield, so looks well worth another crack at this level.
Emaraaty appeals over Expert Eye in Dewhurst duel
In the 7f Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes (15:00), Emaraaty looks decent value to turn over the red-hot jolly Expert Eye.
After shaping with bags of promise when a strong-finishing fourth from off the pace at Sandown when clearly too green to do himself justice, the John Gosden trained juvenile got off the mark in a 15-runner novice event at Newbury in style.
He tanked along throughout and drew clear from halfway to beat Magnificent by 2 1/4 lengths without having to come out of second gear.
It was an awesome display and the fact that Gosden has pitched him straight into Group 1 company says an awful lot.
Foe full details why he looks worth bet in this, and also appeals as an ante post punt for next year’s 2000 Guineas, check out our in-depth individual preview.
John Constable weighted to collect in Cesarewitch
Newmarket’s end-of-season feature is the 2m 2f Cesarewitch Handicap (15:40) and John Constable looks to have everything in his favour to land the spoils.
He won once in Ireland when trained by Aidan O’Brien and also ran well to be placed in two handicaps off marks of 90 and 93.
John Constable then moved to join Evan Williams for a campaign over hurdles and has developed into a really useful sort rated 156.
He now reverts to the level off a mark of just 88; so, in relation to his hurdles rating, that makes him look potentially thrown-in at the weights.
The son of Montjeu is miles ahead of the assessor is translating the level of form he has shown over the obstacles back to the flat.
Having put him up earlier in the week as ante post value at 8/1, I remain confident that John Constable is the one they all have to beat.
