Mokaatil bets and Dabyah odds among Newmarket tips for October 13
Cheltenham Bet’s Newmarket tips for October 13 include Mokaatil bets and Dabyah odds for a cracking card of Group horse racing action this Friday.
Mokaatil makes plenty of appeal at the odds on offer to land the Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes which gets proceedings underway of a superb seven-race card at Newmarket on Friday (13:50).
Owen Burrows’ colt has only had four starts and ran a blinder on the second of those when a 2 1/4 lengths fourth of 22 to Sound Of Silence in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot after being slowly away.
Mokaattil now meets the winner on 3lb better terms; so, given how the race panned out, that may well be enough to see him turn the tables.
The son of Lethal Force also comes into the contest having readily opened his account in a minor contest at Ripon.
That confidence-boosting success will have done him the world of good, and Mokaatil bets appeal as he’s the type who could kick-on with that win under his belt.
Dark Rose Angel to bloom in Oh So Sharp Stakes
Dark Rose Angel ran a stormer when runner-up last time out, so looks to hold leading claims of going one better and getting back to winning ways in the Group 2 Oh So Sharp Stakes (14:20).
After making all to easily open her account at the second time of asking by four lengths at Doncaster, the daughter of Dark Angel found only the hugely exciting Luarens too good in the Group 2 May Hill Stakes at the same venue.
Dark Rose Angel came from off the pace and looked all over the winner when taking up the running inside the last.
However, the winner would not be denied and swooped late to prevail by a head.
The selection lost little in defeat and Laurens is a top-class juvenile who I strongly fancy in the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile later on the card.
Dabyah odds can prove up to the Challenge
Dabyah looks decent value to get the better of Limato and land the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (15:00).
The John Gosden trained filly was a smart juvenile, who made it three wins from four starts when landing the Group 3 Fred Darling stakes on seasonal reappearance at Newbury by a comfortable 1 3/4 lengths.
Dabyah then ran very well to finish a 3 1/2 lengths fourth to dual Classic winner Winter in the Group 1 Coronation Stakes at Ascot.
The form of that race looks hot, with the runner-up Roly Poly having gone on to score three times at the highest level.
Meanwhile, the third home, Hydrangea has beaten Winter in the Group 1 Matron Stakes at The Curragh before finishing a fine second in a Group 1 at at Chantilly.
This represents a drop in class and, although Dabyah has not been seen since, she hails from a yard in fine form.
Coming into the contest fresh could well be a big plus at this time of the season, so Dabyah odds are worth a dabble.
Laurens value in Fillies’ Mile
Friday’s feature race is the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile (15:35) and Laurens looks well worth a punt at the early big-price on offer.
Karl Burke’s juvenile is a progressive sort who has won two of her three starts.
She showed a good attitude last time out when landing the Group 2 May Hill Stakes at Doncaster, leaving the impression that there was plenty more improvement left in the locker.
Laurens is clearly going the right way and I think she is a very exciting prospect.
Full details of why she looks value to fend off a high quality trio saddled by Aidan O’Brien, spearheaded by dual Group 1 winner Happily, to land this can be found in our in-depth race preview.
Humble Hero hot stuff in Old Rowley Cup
Humble Hero has plenty going for him and is a strong fancy in the Old Rowley Cup Handicap (16:10).
Trained by William Haggas, who is bang in-form, the three-year-old is an unexposed sort who has won two of his five starts.
He is 2-4 over the 1m 4f trip and ran very well in defeat two starts back at Haydock when fourth in a race which has worked out well and thrown-up plenty of subsequent winners.
Judged on that effort Humble Hero, who comes into the race on the back of a ready success, looks ahead of the assessor.
His current rating of 89 could seriously underestimate his ability, so full details of why he looks worth a bet to land this in the hands of Andrea Atzeni can be found in our separate preview.
