Humble Hero odds appeal among 2017 Old Rowley Cup tips
Cheltenham Bet’s 2017 Old Rowley Cup tips from Newmarket say back Humble Hero odds for in-form trainer William Haggas in this Heritage Handicap on October 13.
Trainer William Haggas has his team in terrific shape, so Humble Hero looks worth a punt to provide him with another success in the 1m 4f Old Rowley Cup Handicap at Newmarket on Friday (16:10).
The Newmarket handler has a near near 30 per cent strike rate in the past 14 days and in Humble Hero has an improving sort who looks potentially ahead of the assessor.
After shaping with stacks of promise to finish runner-up in his first two starts, the three-year-old opened his account in good style when easily landing a 1m 4f maiden at Doncaster by 3 3/4 lengths.
Better than result suggests at Haydock
Humble Hero was allotted an opening handicap mark of 84 on the back of that victory and shaped far better than the bare result suggests off it when a 3 1/4 lengths fourth of 10 to Zeenon over 1m 6f at Haydock.
After being slowly away, the son of High Chaparral found himself well behind before making good headway two from home.
His run then flattened out at the furlong marker, but he stuck to the task well over a trip which I think stretched his stamina to the limit.
Form worked out well
The form of the race has also worked out really well.
Dominating, to whom he was conceding 9lb and finished sceond, has since going on score twice and landed a decent contest at Ascot last time out off a mark of 86.
The third, fifth and seventh home have also gone on to taste success – winning five races between them.
Humble Hero was then given a break before resuming winning ways last month when readily landing a 1m 4f contest at Newcastle by 1 1/2 lengths.
Ideal trip and Atzeni booking a plus
He has been raised 5lb since, but a revised rating of 89 could seriously underestimate his ability based on the form of his Haydock run and progressive profile.
Humble Hero is also now 2-4 at the trip and gets the services of the in-form Andrea Atzeni in the saddle for the first time.
That is an eye-catching booking, as he has a 28.5 per cent strike rate when teaming up the the yard in the past 12 months.
So, taking everything into account, there is simply nothing not to like about Humble Hero odds in this and he looks well worth a wager at the price on offer.
