Politologue odds appeal each-way among 2018 Queen Mother Champion Chase ante post tips
Cheltenham Bet talk up Politologue odds among 2018 Queen Mother Champion Chase ante post tips after his Tingle Creek Chase victory.
Politologue staked his claim for Queen Mother Champion Chase honours with an impressive win in the Grade 1 Tingle Creek at Sandown.
At 7/1 with Betvictor, Politologue odds look a solid each-way betting proposition in the 2m feature contest on Wednesday, March 14.
The six-year-old, who had landed the Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter on seasonal reappearance, jumped well on the heels of the leaders in the hands of Harry Cobden.
After taking up the running two from home travelling strongly, he found plenty of reserves on the run-in to beat Fox Norton by half-a-length.
No excuses for Fox Norton
It was pleasing to see him dig deep as Politologue had previously appeared not to find that much off the bridle in some of his races when push came to shove.
There were no excuses for the runner-up, who had every chance to go by but couldn’t.
It left simply nothing not to like about the way in which Politologue got the job done.
The John Hales owned grey has now won five of his eight starts over the obstacles and is clearly on an upward curve.
He seems to be maturing with every run and those thoughts were echoed by trainer Paul Nicholls post race.
“Starting to look the proper job”
Ditcheat handler Nicholls said: “He is starting to look the proper job. I knew when he went to Exeter there would be huge improvement.
“No one ever believes you when you say they need a run, but he hadn’t been back long enough really.
“I knew they would go quick and his jumping stands him in great stead. Harry said he just cruises there and ends up idling in front.
“The faster they go, the more he can get a tow into the race. I suspect we will go to Ascot [for the Clarence House Chase] now at the end of January, then on to Cheltenham.”
2m trip ideal
Politologue finished fourth behind Yorkhill in the 2m 4f JLT Novices’ Chase at this year’s Cheltenham Festival, but is clearly a much better horse over 2m.
The trip plays to his strengths and, judged on the manner of his Tingle Creek success, there should be even better to come.
To my eyes, he is a massive player in the 2018 Queen Mother Champion Chase betting.
Clouds over market leaders
The current ante post favourite Altior is yet to set foot on a racecourse this season after undergoing a wind-op.
Second-favourite Douvan has a similar profile, having been on the sidelines since injuring himself in the 2017 running of the Queen Mother.
For all that they are brilliant horses, they still have to get back on track and prove their ability is still there.
That isn’t the case as regards Politologue, who is clearly thriving and so far having the perfect build-up for the race.
So, taking everything into account, I think Politologue odds look a solid each-way bet in the Queen Mother at the current price on offer.
